Black Star Inspiration: Dennis Rodman
Bohten's lineage can be traced back to a long and storied history of black cultural innovators. Each month, we celebrate the inspiration of legendary icons who express their flair through culture, entertainment, public service, leadership and philanthropy.
Our April Black Star Inspiration is American professional basketball player Dennis Rodman. Rodman is said to be “one of the most skilled rebounders, best defenders, and most outrageous characters in the history of the professional game.” His defending and rebounding skills have earned him many accolades including NBA’s defensive player of the year twice in a row and a place on the league’s Defensive team seven times. He played a crucial role in the championship games for both Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls which also earned him a spot in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.
While his talents on the court have his name etched in the basketball history books forever, his style and fashion are also ones that won’t be forgotten. From his hair to his clothes to his jewelry, piercings, tattoos and frames, Dennis Rodman will always be remembered on and off the court. It is because of this, we wanted to highlight some of Rodman’s iconic fashion moments back then and now.
"Bad as I wanna be" Book Launch - 1996

Rodman wore a full white wedding dress to the book launch of his autobiography "Bad as I wanna be". This was definitely one for the books.
VMAs - 1995
He appeared at the VMAs in a tight sequined top, black nail polish and silver frames to match.
Double Team Film - 1997
The purple tights, blonde and orange hair matched perfectly with his silver futuristic frames in this outfit donned by his character in the movie Double Team.
One thing we love the most about Rodman’s fashion sense, is how he always incorporates frames into his outfits. With many to spare, he never hesitates to include a pair of frames to complete his boundary pushing looks. In this 2021 article and photoshoot he did with GQ, this was more than evident.
Dennis Rodman in his basketball prime and up until now is still an icon when it comes to fashion. And we salute him for it.
