Bohten x Kaeme Provide Free Eye Care & Skin Wellness to Juaso, Ghana for World Sight Day 2025

Every year, World Sight Day serves as a powerful reminder of how transformative access to eye care can be. This year, Bôhten Eyewear honored the occasion by partnering with Kaeme and Advocates for Community Partnerships (ACA) to host the Bôhten x Kaeme Eye Care & Wellness Outreach in the rural community of Juaso, Ghana — a village known for its women-led tradition of crafting authentic black soap.
A Community Rooted in Tradition — and Resilience

In Juaso, the art of black soap production is more than a livelihood; it’s cultural preservation. Dozens of women spend long hours near high heat, wood smoke, and outdoor elements to produce this globally sought-after product. While the tradition is celebrated, these conditions can place stress on both eye health and skin health — and access to preventative care in rural regions often remains limited.
Recognizing the need, Bôhten, Kaeme, and ACA brought resources directly to the community’s doorstep.
“Am I Seeing Clearly?”

The outreach began early in the morning, as residents gathered with curiosity and a bit of nervous excitement. Many admitted quietly that they had never received an eye screening before. For several participants, this was their first encounter with an optometrist, and for others, their first opportunity to ask questions about eye health.
With two licensed optometrists on-site (including our very own Dr. Henry Tsiquaye), Bôhten offered free eye screenings for more than 50 community members — testing for early signs of vision impairments such as glaucoma, cataracts and many others. Each person was guided through the process, learning not only their results but also what symptoms to watch for and how frequently to check their eyes.
The turnout exceeded expectations and highlighted how significant this type of outreach is.
“This is what it's all about. Giving back to our communities to ensure everyone benefits from our progress. And what makes this initiative special is how collaborative it was with three organizations coming together to make this happen. It was also a pleasure to see how involved the community was. We were honestly only expecting a turn out of 30/40 people but in the end we had over 50. It shows that there's definitely a need for more of these initiatives but we're just to be a part of the first step and that the Bôhten community could directly give back in this way.”
— Nana B., CEO of Bôhten
Bôhten will be returning to Juaso in the coming months to donate prescription glasses to individuals who require vision correction — extending care beyond the initial screening and ensuring practical, long-term impact.
Kaeme Brings Skin Protection to Center Stage

While residents rotated through eye screenings, Kaeme facilitated skin care education sessions, emphasizing protection and restoration techniques suitable for the demanding conditions of black soap production. Participants learned:
- How heat and smoke can affect the skin
- Best practices for cleansing and moisture retention
- How to identify early signs of irritation or damage
For many, this was their first formal exposure to skincare guidance — empowering them with knowledge they can share with their families and fellow artisans.
Powered by Conscious Shopping
What makes this initiative even more meaningful is how it came to life.
The outreach was partially funded through sales made by Bôhten customers in August and September 2025 — turning everyday eyewear purchases into community impact. You didn’t just shop; you participated.
Your support helped:
✔ Bring licensed professionals to Juaso
✔ Supply screening tools and educational materials
✔ Cover costs for future donated eyewear
It’s a model that reflects the heart of Bôhten: style, sustainability, and social responsibility intertwined.
A Vision for the Future
More than a single-day event, the outreach represented the first step in ongoing community-based wellness. By extending resources to underserved communities, Bôhten continues to highlight the transformative power of conscious business — proving that fashion can be both visionary and meaningful.
As Bôhten looks ahead to future outreach efforts, this initiative serves as a reminder that clear vision and healthy living are fundamental to personal and community development.
And it’s only the beginning.
