Impact of One: Bôhten Partners with Sightsavers

REGAINING YOUR SIGHT WITH BOHTEN EYEGLASSES

Bôhten partners up with Sightsavers to give the gift of sight to those in need.

Toronto, Ontario (September 11, 2015) - BOHTEN EYEGLASSES announced today that it has entered a partnership with Sightsavers to help eliminate avoidable blindness globally, with a focus on river blindness, trachoma and lymphatic filariasis (LF) which mostly affects developing countries. This partnership will help impact the lives of many by supporting Sightsavers projects that help blind people to see, prevent others from going blind unnecessarily, and support people to live independently if their sight loss can’t be undone.

Bôhten is known in the industry for their comfortable, lightweight eyeglasses.“We are very excited to work with Sightsavers,” said Nana Boateng Osei, Founder/CEO, Bôhten Eyeglasses. Teaming up with Sightsavers will allow us to contribute in the fight against eye diseases but will also aid in educating citizens on the prevention and treatment of eye disease prevention such as trachoma and river blindness through Sightsavers.

“This partnership reflects our desire to collaborate with companies that share our vision of providing better vision to those in need and also creating jobs in Africa and globally”, said Aaron Dungca, Digital Marketing Director, Bôhten Eyeglasses. Sightsavers and Bôhten Eyeglasses are both known for having the common goal of bettering eye health in developing countries and around the world. That said, this union will be nothing short of amazing.

“Impact Of One” is the name given to this partnership. It seeks to demonstrate the impact that both partners can have on one underprivileged life. For every pair purchased online, Bôhten will donate $5 to Sightsavers to go towards their global work in developing countries such as Ghana, Cameroon and Senegal.

Mike Straney, Sightsavers Director of Major Giving, Global Fundraising said: “Last year, Sightsavers supported over 296,000 operations to restore sight or prevent blindness. This partnership with Bôhten will help support our work with local partners to reach more people and combat avoidable blindness”.

Founded in April 2013, Bôhten Eyeglasses is the creator of eco-fashionable sunglasses designed in Canada with inspiration from their West African culture. As seen on Dragon’s Den, their mission is to change the face of Africa with a vision that advocates education and employment in Africa and around the world.

Sightsavers is a registered UK charity (Registered charity numbers 207544 and SC038110) that works in more than 30 developing countries to prevent blindness, restore sight and advocate for social inclusion and equal rights for people with disabilities. There are 39 million blind people in the world; 80% of all blindness can be prevented or cured.
