“Black Fit”: The New Inclusive Eyewear Solution Created For And By Black People.
January 20th, 2023 - Bôhten Eyeglasses is pleased to announce the launch of its new line of handmade sunglasses and optical glasses, designed to compliment the unique facial features of black consumers. The innovation is the result of a five year research and development process driven by customer feedback and surveys targeting black consumers.
“The reality is most people, especially minorities, wear glasses that do not fit properly which has implications for health and well-being,” said Nana K. Osei, Bohten Co-founder/Product Lead. “With 60% of our customers identifying as black, the feedback that we have received on our glasses has been crucial in unearthing design biases that have historically favored a few standard facial profiles. Based on these insights, we have re-engineered our design and production blueprint which has allowed us to achieve a more customized fit.”
As part of Bôhten’s commitment to improving awareness about the lack of inclusive eyewear offerings, the brand is scheduled to release an educational video during Black History Month dubbed, “The Fit Story.” Produced in collaboration with Ghanaian Illustrator Hanson Akatti, the video places the new range of frames within the broader context of the history of eyewear.
“Bôhten remains committed to understanding the unique needs of those within our own communities,” said Nana B. Osei, Bôhten CEO/Co-Founder. “With the release of this new collection, we are laying the groundwork for further innovation as we strive towards creating a more inclusive eyewear industry.”
Bôhten will put on a series of activations in the month of February at New York Fashion Week and Magic Fashion Trade Show Las Vegas, to officially unveil the new line to fashion buyers and retailers.
