Bôhten Joins World Health Organization For World Sight Day

More than anything else, we want you to know that We See You, and we want you to see us, too – but not just us – we want you to see the world around you in the most vivid and impactful way. That’s not the easiest of tasks for at least 2.2 billion people, though.
Globally, 15 percent of the population have a near or distance vision impairment. In 1 billion of these cases, vision impairment could have been prevented or has yet to be addressed. It is a part of the reason why the World Health Organization has commemorated the second Thursday of October as World Sight Day, an annual day of awareness shining light on vision impairment, including blindness.
This year’s theme is Love Your Eyes, an initiative provided by, and in partnership with, the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). Their mission this year is to see at least 1 million people pledge to have their eyes examined by the end of World Sight Day.
At Bôhten, we are doing our part to help. Later this month, we will be visiting Jack and Jill School in Accra, where we will be providing free eye tests to enrolled students. Bôhten’s in-house optometrist, Dr. Josiah Henry Tsiquaye, who will be conducting the exams, said the initiative is important because it can quickly identify and detect abnormalities that may affect the development of eyes later in life.
“Early childhood examination is important to ensure normal visual development and to confirm that there are no visual problems that may affect the development of the child,” said Dr. Henry. “It is rewarding to see the smile I put on the faces of my patients after I care for them because they can see better. It is the most fulfilling part of my profession.”
Bôhten frames are designed to transform your view of the world through dynamic perspectives. In alignment with World Sight Day, our social responsibility standard, "Better Every Day," is our promise to support positive change in environmental sustainability, eye care, and youth employment through our everyday actions. Our local presence across Africa gives us a unique perspective and opportunity to act on our promise.
